Single Cup Special

Single Cup Special: "

Oh boy, this Plug Cup is going to make me lazybones. Ever since I’ve laid my eyes on it, I have wanted this concept to come to life. It’s perfect for this instant coffee and green tea glutton that I am. A simple 180° rotating 2-pin plug at the base of the cup hooks on to any power source; so imagine this hanging off the powerstrip where my computer plugs are hitched! A tight lid ensures no spills and a clamp lock keeps the cup upright at the base. The good thing is that the heating element detaches so that the cup can be cleaned easily. Coffee mix, tea, water bottle….all will sit right next to my printer!

Glass Full of Radio

Glass Full of Radio: "

Have you ever tried this: take a glass (wine glass is better) and fill it more than half with water, then dip your finger in the water and rub it on the rim in a circular motion. Soon a very peaceful rhythm, more like Buddhist chants, can be heard. Playing on this physics is the radi_O, a concept radio that hopes to keep the intuitive bond between the music-box and humans, intact. And just like the finger on the glass, a good swirl on the radi_O rim controls the volume and the music station. Awesome!

NYDW2011-offsite.png

Anchored by the ICFF, the real fun of New York Design Week is exploring the various exhibitions that pop-up in new and familiar places, and the parties help to make everything seem a lot less like work! This year saw the third edition of Model Citizens NYC, newcomer Wanted Design, and the return of the Meatpacking Design District where New Finnish Design was eager to live up to their title as World Design Capital 2012. MatterMade was a highlight in Soho, while Gallery R'Pure's 'BrokenOff BrokenOff,' the highly-anticipated exhibition in memory of the inimitable Tobias Wong, did not disappoint.

Toys That’ll Make Them Meow and Woof!

Toys That’ll Make Them Meow and Woof!: "

Starting this month, AbsolutelyNew, Inc., a next generation consumer products company that develops the best ideas from independent inventors, is introducing four new pet toys into PetSmart stores. All four are designed to keep our feline and canine friends physically and mentally engaged, using interactive elements and natural encouragement. Two of the toys are for dogs and two are for cats. Below are descriptions of each.

• Treat Launcher™ is a fun and stylish dog toy that propels kibble treats (small or large) into the air for your pooch to chase. It features a comfortable ergonomic handle, a transparent treat cover so you can see how many treats are remaining and a loop so you can affix a wrist strap or carabiner. In addition, it does not require batteries and is dishwasher safe.

MSRP is $19.99.

• Squeeze Bones™ is a sophisticated and durable treat-dispensing toy that will stimulate your dog’s mind and mouth. When dogs bite on the pliable tubular portion, they expel treats to the rubbery spherical portion, where they are subsequently dispensed during play for the dog to consume. It features a transparent tubular section so treats are visible; natural rubber

and heavy-duty PVC; dental grooves for oral hygiene; and a paste-treat chamber. Available in three different sizes (mini, midi, and max) and three color combinations. MSRP is $12.99-$17.99 (based on size).

• Catnip Tip ‘n Twirl™ is a wobbling cat toy that holds either live or dry catnip, and dangles tantalizing feathers from a flexible line connected to the top. It features a weighted base that keeps the toy upright during play; spiral open-air vanes that allow a live plant to grow through it; and a special ring that keeps soil inside of the container, even when tipped.

MSRP is $19.99.

• Roll Play™ is a multi-function treat-dispensing catnip toy. It features a sisalwrapped exterior, which cats like to claw; a plume of feathers, which provides visual simulation; a compartment that holds dried catnip and treats; and an opening that dispenses the treats as the cat plays with the toy. The product is available in two shapes (round and cone) and three colors (red, blue and green).

MSRP is $12.99.

Carmine Gallo on the Root of Apple's Less-is-More Philosophy

Carmine Gallo on the Root of Apple's Less-is-More Philosophy: "

Relatively speaking, not that much stuff.

A popular thought on human psychology, of the cocktail-party-chatter variety, is that 'People don't regret the things they do; they regret the things they didn't do.' It's probably true for the ailing bed-rider who passed on an 18th-birthday bungie-jumping trip, but not so true in the world of industrial design.

'It's extraordinary,' writes communications coach Carmine Gallo in Forbes, 'to think that the world's top brand has a product portfolio that could fit on a small table.' Gallo is referring to Apple, whose product line-up seems to be inversely proportional to the size to its profits, and serves as a good example of the things they didn't do.

Gallo is the author of The Innovation Secrets of Steve Jobs: Insanely Different Principles for Breakthrough Success and reveals a Jobs quote that explains Apple's relatively tiny number of products. (In another Forbes article on Apple's retail stores, Gallo points out that when the stores were first conceived, pre-iPod, Apple had just four major products to fill it with—two laptops and two desktops.)

Ferrari Head Protector

Ferrari Head Protector: "

Listen, if I have to risk helmet hair I’m gonna do it in style – Ferrari Helmet Style. An homage to the historic Maranello tradition, the Ferrari Helmet Style exudes luxury and oozes with presence but a helmet, no matter how luxurious, needs to protect your head. Satin-finish aluminium details protect and surround the edge of the padding, making it even more abrasion-resistant and easier to clean.

Genuine leather and the embossed Ferrari logo are the perfect finishing touch for this beautifully designed, top of the range helmet. The outer shell is made from advanced thermoplastic polymer with a high gloss scratch-resistant finish while the visor is manufactured using injection moulded scratch-resistant polycarbonate and offers excellent visibility in all conditions. The inside of the helmet is lined with two-tone Dupont® technical fabric that is both anti-allergic and antistatic.

Manufactured by Newmax srl, the historic Italian brand for high-end motorcycle accessories. Want it?
