Jonah Lehrer: The Origins of Creative Insight & Why You Need Grit

Jonah Lehrer: The Origins of Creative Insight & Why You Need Grit:
“The answer will only arrive after we stop looking for it,” says bestselling author Jonah Lehrer. Examining recent research into what drives creative insights, Lehrer breaks down how and why we have “aha!” moments, using examples that range from Bob Dylan writing “Like A Rolling Stone” to a Tibetan monk’s zen puzzle-solving powers.
But insight isn’t everything. Those who achieve great things in the long-term also have another important quality: Grit, a single-minded persistence that helps them keep their eye on the prize and pushing ever-forward even when the “aha!” moments aren’t around.
More about this fantastic The 99% Conference Talk.

The Bathroom Mirror Windshield Wiper by Dewa Bleisinger

The Bathroom Mirror Windshield Wiper by Dewa Bleisinger:
Everyone can relate to the inconvenience of a foggy mirror after taking a hot shower. The designer Dewa Bleisinger has created the “mirror clearer,” a wiper that attaches to your bathroom mirror by a suction cup. Now with a simple rotation of the wiper you can whisk away that steamy buildup and jump into plucking your nose hairs instead of waiting for your mirror to de-fog by brushing your teeth. Made from plastic and silicone, the device measures L36 x W 5.5 x H4.5 cm,

working on mirrored surfaces larger than 40 x 40 cm. You can purchase the “mirror clearer” from designspray for about $20.00.

Design by Frank Ligthart called the Obelisk is an amazing set of outdoor furniture which is easily fashionable enough to be used indoor as well. It’s a set of four chairs and a small table that stack into a towering obelisk when not in use.
These chairs are as unique and attractive as they are functional. With the OBELISK collectionDEDON shows how an impressive work of art can be made out of four chairs and a table: modular, powerful, and surprisingly versatile. The set is made out of aluminum and woven polyethylene, so they should be right at home indoors or out.  The Obelisk is available in a dark gray and a silvery light gray. Price: $8,922

Replace Your Boring Doorbell with the Pianobell

Replace Your Boring Doorbell with the Pianobell:
This is probably the coolest doorbell I’ve ever seen!  The Pianobell is an innovative approach to the old doorbell by Li Jian. As you can see from the picture attached bellow the Pianobell was inspired by a piano. This concept is great because it allows your visitors to perform a short piece of music on this small “instrument”, and is something that you’ve never saw before!

A sneak preview of my A1 board that I’ll be exhibiting at New Designers. The photo was taken at Altrincham Ice Rink (which was fun, a photoshoot on ice) and I later edited the Icearc into the image with a combination of Solidworks and Photoshop.
Special thanks to James and Jordan for helping me get a great picture!
